Although Killcreek is set in a small Montana mining town in 1951, the universal theme of the American dream turned nightmare – with its human toll in the form of unemployment, foreclosure and alcoholism – resonates today. Archetypal characters play out the 1% versus 99% in this socially and environmentally astute play. The boom and bust of a town’s reliance on natural resources, not to mention the collateral damage as men risk their lives for a paycheque, take a heavy toll on this family. Mired in lives of sacrifice, depression and desperation, all they have is each other. But will love and family be enough?
